Project Dates:
1986 - present
Summary:
Military Handbook 17, Composite Materials is the definitive resource
for statistically validated material properties for polymer, ceramic,
and metal matrix composites. MIL-17 contains extensive guidance
on the generation of allowables through testing, an extensive database
of material properties, and guidance on the use of the data. More
information on the activities of MIL-17 can be found at the organization's
Web site. MSC created this website, and is responsible for its
maintenance.
MSC is MIL-17's
Secretariat contractor. In this role, MSC is responsible for editing
and production of the handbook, performing material data reduction
and review, and organizing the group's meetings. MSC has also built
Internet systems that aid this widely dispersed volunteer organization
in tracking documents and speeding the review process.
The handbook
is available from the DoD Single Stock Point, and is commercially
printed by ASTM.
Both MSC and ASTM also offer an interactive,
electronic version of the handbook.
